Louisville Visitor Information Kiosks set to open in Indianapolis and Cincinnati
The Recession, swine flu, airline capacity cuts…On the one hand, it seems like the odds are stacked against travelers and the hospitality industry. But on the other, there are a lot of opportunities out there if you look hard enough. The Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau is doing all that it can to get the word out so we are pouring our energy into getting tourists and vacationers to Louisville this summer. So in the first week of June 2009 the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau is set to open two remote Visitor Information Center (VIC) kiosks. The first will be located in Indianapolis in the Circle Centre Mall downtown. Our second remote VIC kiosk will be located in Cincinnati in the Kenwood Towne Centre Mall.
Following on the heels of our 9-city bus blitz in April we believe that planting two VIC kiosks in our two primary feeder markets make a great deal of sense. We will be able to promote events on a weekly basis such as concerts, shows and events such as the Streets Rods, Forecastle Festival and the Kentucky State Fair. We will also offer discounts to those individuals interested in taking an extended weekend vacation or just an overnight stay in Louisville. But our plan isn’t limited to just promoting Louisville. We will also promote the entire state of Kentucky as well by incorporating state visitor guides and other select collateral in our VIC kiosk locations.
Our objectives are as follows:
1. Drive additional summer leisure traffic from Indiana and Ohio into Louisville
2. Drive additional summer leisure traffic from Indiana and Ohio into Kentucky
3. Generate additional revenues for our hotels, attractions, restaurants and retail outlets
4. Generate additional tax revenues for Louisville and the State of Kentucky
5. Provide vacation value to our leisure consumers
There is little doubt we are living in a new era with the reshaping of the U.S. economy and the fast pace the world is changing. As a destination marketing organization it is imperative we continue to look for new ways to market ourselves in this new global economy. The remote VIC kiosks are just one example of many new initiatives the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau has implemented in recent months. We will continue to do all we can with the resources provided to help keep the hospitality industry vibrant as we continue to adapt to the changing world in which we live in.
