Louisville Tourism and Bourbon; Kentucky’s Native Spirit.
With the intent of capitalizing on what is uniquely Kentucky, the “Bourbon Country” initiative was developed and a strategic branding plan was created. Over 95% of the world’s bourbon is produced within miles of Louisville. We knew we had something totally unique to this area. Much like San Francisco is marketed as the gateway to wine country, Louisville has been positioned and marketed as the gateway to Bourbon Country.
Realizing that there were no distilleries in the city that were open to the public, Louisville created its own bourbon trail to go along with the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. While it doesn’t include a distillery, the Urban Bourbon Trail includes seven establishments the bourbon lover can visit and raise a glass of Kentucky’s own bourbon. Each is well-stocked with at least 50 bourbons, some as many as 150. Bourbon-inspired cuisine, prepared by some of the region’s most creative chefs, can also be found on the Urban Bourbon Trail.
Bourbon Country and the Urban Bourbon Trail have not only generated a lot of local, regional and national buzz, it has also drawn a whole new wave of bourbon-loving visitors to Louisville and the seven-county region that house the eight distilleries on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.
